A really cool place to visit and explore. Buildings still exist from when the mines were active. There’s also an example museum style mine at the base for you to tour. BUT BEWARE, it’s not wise to try to navigate the loop without a vehicle designed to handle steep off road activity.

This is beautiful. Do not miss it. Taking the whole route in a 2WD vehicle is a bit of a stretch. Make sure you do visit this area and read a little history before you go.

The road would be questionable for a 2WD vehicle or low clearance. The east part of the loop is the most impressive part with all the remnants of the mining past.

Only got to do the first 4 or so sites until our Hyundai Tucson had trouble getting up the steep hill and we had to reverse back down quite a ways. Still, what we were able to see was spectacular enough to make it very worthwhile. Amazing cliffs and very large, intact, and numerous mining buildings perched at shocking heights.

Fantastic views, lots of history along the route! Definitely recommend stopping by the Creede visitor’s center and purchasing a map of the loop for $3. Took about an hour and a half for us to leisurely do the whole loop, but well worth it!
