The peacocks aren't cool with selfies, jsyk, don't even ask them for one ud83dude12
Understandably, indoor exhibits are all closed during covid, and currently is a fully outdoor experience.nSmall zoo, but prefer it to Colorado Springs' Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, where the steep slope of the mountainside make walking about with my older parents or pushing a stroller less pleasant.nLots of open space for picnicking and kids to run around on the grass. Big beautiful shady trees are nice on warm days. Benches frequently for resting. Went on a weekday and no crowds.nCost for family annual pass was cheaper than paying individual prices. Nice.nKids love the park next door. Teens love the park's disc golf.
Since there were so many exhibits closed, I was glad we got a military discount. We did enjoy watching a variety of animals. It was a cool but sunny day so just right to spend the day outside. We were sad monkey Island was closed. Also sad not to see any reptiles or penguins. The gift shop was very limited on shirt sizes. We also couldn't get a pressed penny. However they did carry a magnet or Keychain to put an imprinted penny ID they ever get their penny machine repaired.
Disappointing. Empty enclosures. Filthy water in the otter tank. Very expensive gift shop, with few items.nnIn response to the zoo's response:. If the point is education why is there not much more signage telling about the animals, where they come from, what they eat, how long they live, about their habitat, things to educate the public? Why wasn't there a temporary sign telling visitors that the water filtration equipment had failed? That might have even lead to donations to fix the problem! I do appreciate that there is someone reading and responding to reviews that are posted.
Love this little community zoo so much!
