Castle Crags State Park

A great little state park, nestled between the freeway and the Sacramento River. Nice, well-maintained trails and facilities.nIf you drive up to the Vista Point, be prepared for some “road to Hana” driving on the super narrow one-lane road.

This is a pretty great hike if you have a little time on your road trip heading up or down interstate five. Great place to stretch your legs. Castle Crags as a well-known rock formation not far from the Oregon border. The crags Peak elevation is 6500 feet. Make sure you stop in Dunsmuir. Also the railroad Hotel is fun to look at worth a visit.

It’s a pretty view of the Castle Crag rocks and you also have a great view of Mount Shasta. Just be careful going up to the Vista Point it is a one lane road going up and down for 1 mile and it is so narrow I don’t know how cars can pass by each other. Be safe!!!

Hiked to castle dome. Difficult hike up with plenty of vertical gain; don’t bring small children. Assuming everyone is prepared, the view is well worth the climb. Amazing, rare view.

I love this entire state park. From the back country trails, to the Castle Dome Trail that takes you right into the heart of the Crags.. This place is absolutely incredible and a must see hiking destination if you are in the Northern California, Central Valley area. Make sure to be prepared when hiking the Castle Dome Trail as it certainly has its fair share of elevation gain on its way up.nnDon’t forget to snap some photographs of Mount Shasta as the views of Shasta are some of the best
