We loved everything about this trip. Our guide Casey was interactive with each person in the group, and had a great sense of humor throughout. The entire trip was very entertaining and full of excitement. Even the lunch was fantastic! We can’t wait to come back for another experience with Northeast Whitewater!
Due to Covid, there needs to be some sort of air flow in the van, such as opening the windows or something, although you couldn't open the windows. Also, two hours before starting the trip, we asked the office if masks would be required and they told us that they'd ask everyone to wear their masks. When we boarded the van, for the first 1.5 hours of the tour, 3 out of the 9 people had taken off their mask. I did not feel comfortable confronting the people, so after the first 1.5 hours, when we got off the van to go look for moose, I told our tour leader to ask them to put on their masks. He said he would do so. Rather than telling them face to face, he told them from the front of the van. He also did not check again to make sure everyone was wearing their masks later on. The 3 people initially put on their masks when he first asked (only over their mouths, not their noses). Within 10 minutes, they took off their masks and the tour leader never again checked to see if they kept their masks on. We called the office the next day to let them know about our experience. They were extremely rude and said we were being very unreasonable and said we shouldn't have come on this trip, since it didn't meet our standards, even though its the state of Maine's standard to wear masks in pubic. I was frustrated and did not feel comfortable at all during the whole tour and would not recommend this company during this time.
We went to Moosehead lake last month. We stayed at the Lodge, ate at Kelly's Landing and Stress Free Moose Pub, and took tours with Northwoods Outfitters and Northeast Whitewater. Except for Northeast Whitewater, it was a wonderful experience and I cannot recommend these places enough.nnNortheast Whitewater was the single most unpleasant experience that ruined the trip for us. We had booked a private afternoon tour to go moose-watching to maximize our chances of seeing moose. The way the four hour trips work, you spend an hour getting to Kokadjo, and an hour coming back, which leaves 2 hours for moose-watching. In a private tour, you pay $300 so you can flexibly ask the driver to take you different places.nnBut we were surprised to find that the trip was detoured to pick up a canoe for the tour company (despite the fact, as the guide told us, moose don't go to the lake at this time of year). When we realized this and ask the guide to simply drive to the moose, he told us he couldn't since he'd been instructed to pick up the canoe (and needed our help). By the time we got to the area where the moose were, we'd lost almost an hour and it was almost darknnWhat made a bad problem worse was when we called the next day to ask why this happened. The owner was rude in an email (which we have also given to the credit card company disputing the charge) and even worse over the phone. As you will see from their response to any negative comment in previous reviews, they are incapable of taking feedback. For all these reasons, I do not recommend them.
Had an excellent experience staying in the tents and enjoying white water rafting. Bryce was a great guide and Jessica was amazing helping with my last minute reservations.
Kurt was a great tour guide, little speedy of a driver though. Didn’t see any moose. I think at least a partial refund for unsuccessful tours would be more than reasonable.
