Only attended the fair, and not a race. However, the facilities were very clean and had plenty of space for everyone; there was a race occurring during my visit to the fair. The track itself is very large, and low-banked. They were putting a very notable effort into making sure the surface was race ready. The stands themselves are very large and easily accessible. Parking is copious if a bit hard to navigate.
Highly recommend the Illinois State Fair Grandstand and 1 mile oval track!nEspecially, for me, the Springfield Mile races on Memorial Day & Labor Day.nAFT racing at its best & fastest!nA very good facility on a very nice fairgrounds. Certainly worth a look see.
I liked the old field of a carnival, brought back a lot of good memories. Drove from Missouri to see Shinedown and Reba play both were amazing. The only problem with sitting close was your vision was block half the time by bars and wires. Both performances were phenomenal!! 2 other bad things were paying crazy prices for parking then Having to pay for the fair. I think if you drop that kind of money at your grand stand you should get in free.
Its just awesome
Last year they removed most of the vendors from the lower level of the Grandstand. These vendors had great merchandise at great prices. I asked the fair office where the vendors had been moved to and they had no idea.
