Starved Rock State Park is a great place to visit. It is enjoyable during all seasons. One of my favorite seasons is the winter. You can better see the eagles hanging out in the leafless trees, and enjoy some tranquility in a park that is typically overrun during the warmer seasons. During a good winter the frozen waterfalls in some of the canyons are most impressive, or looking over a frozen Illinois River is a sight you won't forget. Just be careful, in the winter the board walks and stairs are not cleared of the snow and can become dangerously slippery. Nevertheless, a place worth visiting. Oh, and when you enter, check out the fenced in section with bird feeders. You will recognize many indigenous bird species here that stay during the winter months.

Super packed on the nicest day of Spring Break! And there were dogs- lots of dogs! The canyons were cool, don't get me wrong, but a friend said that Matthiessen Park 5 minutes away was even better. If you go, be prepared for stair climbing!

Great place for some winter fun! Dress for the weather. The trails were covered with fresh snow but all ice underneath. Pack your binoculars and keep your eyes peeled for some spectacular views of nature.
