Absolutely a beautiful area. This set up is very simple and down to earth. The dirt is fairly packed, not powdery. The benches are wood planks, a bit on the tall side and very sturdy. This space is literally right off a well used path, that is a pro and a con. Pro being that it's around the bend from the parking lot and simply can't miss it. Con in the way that the path is used and may have the noise of mountain bikes and shoes on the gravel dirt trail. In the parking lot there are bathrooms and garbage cans, though the parking lot is limited on space; guests may result to parking on the road or a near by parking lot just died the hill, they will need a ride or be shuttled up to the main parking lot.

If you plan to get married here have a plan B. The location is absolutely gorgeous and the setting is perfect. the active tradition of making "reservations" is to leave a piece of wood or rock with your name and date on it. There are calendar books there as well though you may run into problems. We did everything we're supposed to. Check every rock and calendar before we set a date and chose Sept. 20, 2020 from 4-6PM. We wrote the info on a rock and in the calendar book that was there. The day of our wedding, Sept. 20, 2020 we met a large group of people already taking up the space for our block of time. At first we mentioned we had reserved the time, they didn't care. If we had been met with any curtesy or even the slightest bit of empathy I would have congratulated their union. Instead we were met with arrogance and excuses (especially from the best man). They were not able to provide any proof that they had reserved the time. No rock, no calendar entry, no regard for the wedding day they just stepped on. We ended up finding another spot not far away to have our ceremony. This is a free venue that does not have a managed reservation system. We knew that going in, but when you come face to face with prideful arrogance and complete disregard for others. It ruins a few things. Have a plan B.

My sister and her husband made sure their wedding date and time was not taken weeks before, made absolutely sure checking all the stones and wood for over 20 minutes before putting down their date and time in the book and on a stone were pushed out by a large wedding party day of their wedding. The other party did not put their name in the book and they gave every excuse and were unremorseful. They either didn't do their due diligence or just didn't care. It was very very upsetting. Just be aware because it's a free venue you might have this happen and to have a back up plan.

It was a perfect choice. Gorgeous, epic photos, and entirely free. We rented out a restaurant for the reception and because there was no ceremony held at that spot, we only had to worry about a rental fee. If you are thinking non traditional, gorgeous, slightly tempted to elope but can’t manage it? Church of Dirt. You reserve your date using the book and “placed date” system that is in a small bag to the right of the ceremony space. Write your date down, then place a tile, piece of wood, etc with your date written down. Honor system and you rely on the respect of others.

Cool venue for a outdoorsy, naturalist, minimalist wedding. Pretty views. Plank style benches for visitors. Make sure you write your reservation in the book
