Very nice but it wasn't open for a tour today.

What a precious experience we had at Oakleigh House during our cross country trip! The Southern Belles volunteers gave us a very detailed walk through the house in a friendly and personable fashion, and were all knowledgeable and original in their own way.nWe learned a lot about the history, customs and way of life during the generations and various owners of this house. They also siggestd a few eateries in New Orleans (our next stoo) which turned out to be a huge success. A must do experience when traveling through Mobile AL!

Not my favorite, but still very interesting. This home was built around 1830 and was aquired by the city of mobile in the 1950's. Not a lot of original artifacts inside the home. The city of mobile has stocked the house with plenty of antiques from the 1800's though. A clock made in London on the second floor is the oldest antique in the home. Lots of photos, oil paintings and lots to read. The historian tour guide was very helpful.

Mentioned in archives on Octavia La Vert I feel a connection to from the 1800s. I need to find out more the downfall & human nature now compared to 1800s. Im on SSI & Im a middle grade fiction author & citizen scientist

We were visiting Mobile for the day and had really planned to tour the Bragg Mitchell Mansion, but as they were closed for an event, we visited Oakleigh instead and were not disappointed. Both the house and the grounds were beautiful--it was azalea season and it was in full, gorgeous bloom! We really enjoyed the tour and hearing the stories of the families who lived in the house and seeing their things. Some really fascinating architecture, including the giant pocket doors and the windows with the half doors. Just a great example of American history and we're glad we visited!
