Dr Heck is a wonderful surgeon but his support staff is lacking. I had issues from the beginning getting an epidural scheduled. Took over a month. No one ever returns phone calls. Had issues with my insurance. Was told someone would look into it and call me back. They never did. Then for my post op follow up, I showed up and they stated they had called to reschedule. I was never contacted.nThankfully I had no issues with surgery, but if I had I would fear what the outcome would have been. I will not recommend using Dr Heck because of this. Otherwise, he is a great surgeon but you are only as strong as your support staff and it could use major improvements.
A few years ago, I hurt my cuboid. I saw Dr. Krauss and promised myself I'd never go to this practice again. He disregarded my injury and put my extreme pain to the fact that I was overweight. After suffering, I got a second opinion, and the MRI showed it was still broken. Dr. Krauss wasn't willing to listen. A doctors job is to diagnose, not make assumptions.nnHowever, last year, my mom had severe pain and was referred to Dr. Booker via her Primary Care. If I had known it was Southlake Orthopaedics, I would have asked for another doctor. Wait times were long, but she got a shot that lasted 3 months. To get another shot after 3 months, I have called several times with no response. My mom is limping and in severe pain. Patient care is not their first priority.nnBirmingham has several places that put patience care and well being ahead. Avoid this place at all cost.
Waste of time. Waste of life. Waste of copays. Waste of an entire year of already paid deductible just to get into the new year and realize if I want adequate, reasonable care, I need to go to a different clinic. Misdiagnosed twice over 6 month period. Approaches and methodologies are antequated. Steroid injections —> surgery. There is a total lack of coordination among administrative and medical support staffs. And only one of at least 4 nurses in a 6-month period actually had the professional courtesy and acumen to call me back. I LITERALLY had to request to speak to the business manager multiple times just to get calls returned by medical staff. Also had to book appointments just for the doctor to give me a 2 minute pre-contrived text book speech that a nurse could easily have relayed via phone. It is very much a “that’s not my job” kind of place but the person whose job it is doesn’t seem required to take responsibility. They are either too busy a practice or one with lots of workplace politics going which amount to business operations problems that are a customer nightmare. I also agree with the other reviewer who said they seem more interested in collecting copays that they are in partnering with you for smart care and swift recovery. Stay away. Or get an outside independent second opinion and go back there if you want. If you DO go try to get the Valleydale location. The Grandview office staff seems more pressed, unfriendly, and less coordinated. Try to get assigned to Autumn. The other nurses don’t even return calls. In my experience the doctors were equally poor-fit for me. I was never even told something as simple as whether to ice or heat the injury - I had to figure that out on my own. I never write reviews but this was awful. Southlake - do better. Two stars instead of one because I am a fair enough person to realize they are people. People are imperfect. And maybe this entire operation is just having a bad season. As it stands they need an entire overhaul. Good luck if you go there.
Dr. Krauss and his team are very professional and understanding. I have been pleased with the quality of care I received from everyone during my care.
I popped something in my knee while I was down in Hoover on business. After this injury my knee filled with fluid and the pain was excruciating. I called all the urgent care places including the hospital emergency room and none of them could accommodate my needs.nnAt Southlake was able to get an appointment the same day. I am not a regular patient but they quickly explained their process and after finishing the paperwork they moved me right to a room.nnKatie was the treating attendant and she was awesome. She was sensitive to my pain and gentle as she drained the fluid. I almost hugged her when she was done because she dramatically mitigated my pain level.nI appreciate how well I was treated and would recommend you to anyone needing medical attention.nnI am from out of town but you treated me like your next door neighbor. Thanks again for everything !!
