I'm amazed that I can give 5 stars to a state-run organization but this office is wonderful!. They're always very helpful and friendly and even when they're busy they're very quick about getting through the lines. I love my County and I love my local motor vehicle department.

I have never been so disappointed in a place until now. For years my family has gone to this DMV and has received nothing but love and professionalism. But today the micro aggression showed us that we will in fact never be considered equal. An employee currently working here permanently messed up my mothers drivers license because it didn’t look valid. That would have been completely understandable if the manager had actually put work into finding my moms Mexican license valid. On top of all that they took over an hour checking the license and damaging it without trying. My mom had always used that license and has never had any problem with past employees. At the end the employee apologized while still being very rude and hostile. The micro aggression toward hispanics/minorities should NOT be allowed in the work place. Do better to educate the people that work with such a diverse group.

First, I would like say that if you had previous problems at this location, then try going north to the next county and see how that works out for you. I arrived 30 minutes before they opened and got my place in line, not to far back. As soon as they opened the doors, an employee asked each person in line what they needed so we could be directed to the correct place. I have never seen that before, so that was wonderful. Came for my STAR ID and to transfer 4 cars from another county as well as register a new one. Upon entering the building, I was there for 1.5 hours and accomplished a long list of things. The personnel behind the glass were all professional and courteous, especially the personnel behind the glass issuing tags. Even during these tumultuous Covid times, this office made things easy. I would recommend going to their website, shelbyal.com, if you are unsure of what documents to bring for STAR ID, tags, titles, etc. It sure did help me before my visit. Shelby county, great job at this location!!! It restores faith and confidence in a pessimist of probate.

Would be nice if they would put chairs or bench along wall. When you have to wait 30 minutes and more for tag, some people can't stand that long. Definitely need more cashiers working especially when people are lined up out the door.
