The US Park Service has done a phenomenal job of telling the story of native plant and culture activity in the New River Gorge area, especially at the Sandstone Visitors Center. Allow at least an hour to view the movie and see the plants and river — very photogenic site.

This place is really unusual because it is very Green. And you get the feeling that they designed it for maximum effeciency, low energy usage and few people. Trying to educate the visitors about nature as well as to provide a restroom and travel information. Lots of natural history museum vibes going on here.

Gorgeous and well run park. Very worth spending some time to explore, even if you have just a few minutes driving through. Very nice visitors center, too!
