The beautiful building is the center of St. Edwards University and overlooks downtown Austin. St. Edwards was founded by the order of Holy Cross as a Catholic boys school in 1873 and by 1921 had became a college. In 1925 it reached the status of a university. The Main Building, after being destroyed by a fire, was rebuilt in 1903 in the Gothic revival style reminiscent of the great universities of the east. St. Edwards University is a fascinating part of Austin history that many Austin residents are unfamiliar with.
