Western Middle School

This school is awesome!! You get your application reviewed first for YPAS. You get to show off your skills in your majors like art,drama,band and orchestra, and choir. They also have amazing teachers!!ud83dude1c

This school is such a fake. They made it seem like it was so good and it was NOT. The building itself is in good condition, but it is not kept up well. The now ex-principal, Mrs. Rice, did an awful job at discipline, turning it into a racial issue. (She punished the African-American students less harshly than the Caucasian students.) Not to mention the fact that bullying was so bad, students were turning to cutting their wrists and suicide as an option, me being one of those students. I had 5-12 friends there who were the same way, and God knows how many other people were also in this state. The counselor had this idea that when a student tells her about another students participating in the same actions, she had to be told more than once to call the parents.(Also my situation) The only good thing there was the teachers, especially Ms. Begley, Mrs./Mr. Steed, Ms. Thompson, Mr. Rahe, and more. I hope this school only gets better. I don't think it could get any worse.

i'll be in 8th grade but in all my experience it has been great to say that western middle school is my school my second home and i love all the teachers i get especially my band teacher so whoever goes to western next school year is in for a treat

My child came from another performing arts school (LPAS). WMSFA has a good theater/vocal music program. As far as quality education and in-depth learning, this school is far lacking though. She is an AP student but I fear that upon transferring her to a new school now, she will be behind. She rarely has any homework and it when she does, it's very minimal and basic. Mrs. Rice (the principle) has a HUGE ego which seems to be her only concern--as you will see if you try and hold her/staff's feet to the fire about mishandling of security issues, other concerns, etc. She only cares about sugar coating things and fronting and NOT about putting the kids first and quality education--a lot of good talk but no action. There are numerous behavioral issues daily there, hard place to really learn if that's what you are wanting. Overall scores poor. I sincerely regret sending my child here. Don't drink the koolaid!
