Rented a tent site online. I had kind of a hard time figuring the site out, but eventually got a great spot. We car camped in a tent site, hecken awesome. Clean site, not muddy even with the rain. Great showers and restrooms. The trails are definitely worth doing, especially just north of the lodge. We saw lots of deer and even a fox. Lots for kiddos to do too.
Great state park in NE OK! Loved the nature center and all the trails! Fossil Trail was really neat, very rocky, along the lake. We stayed at Seminole Campground in our camper. Every site had great views of the lake, were nicely spaced, with a good picnic table & fire pit & friendly camp host. Beautiful sunsets. Recommend for a day trip for hiking or a weekend camping trip (or stay at the lodge- it looked nice). The lake looked okay, I think nearby Tenkiller is nicer and the marina was dated, but in good weather, lots to do outside. The water had decent visibility, but the swim beach looked muddy and brown. The water reflected the blue sky, but definitely seemed a bit muddy. Nice trails along the lake and through the woods of various lengths. Also have horse stables!
Campground and playground were clean and easy to find. Everything including the hiking trails are *very* well marked. Maps are freely available and accurate.nnMany RV spots had concrete pads, but very few were level. While we were there, the lake was flooding and our campsite became uninhabitable. Camp staff did not warn us of the danger, but they were happy to relocate us when we informed them our site was half underwater. I'm glad we set up on the other half!nnNature center was a lot of fun. They do programs at different times of day with snakes and otters and such. My kids found a recently dead snake outside in the grass and the park ranger allowed us to feed it to the king snake inside. It was fantastic to watch.nnHiking trails are well marked and quite easy for most trails. There is even a handicap accessible trail. Daily horseback riding is offered.nnFishing was good. We chose our camping spot because it had a dock next to it. The dock was up on floats, but unfortunately the ramp was not. So the ramp was underwater and we couldn't access the dock.nnAs a hiker/camper I don't think I'll ever come back to this campground. But if I was a boater or golfer I suspect I would have loved it here. The lake is huge and so is the golf course. Unfortunately, I didn't come for those two things.
Family-friendly state park. Beautiful views. Varied hiking trails. Fairly clean bathrooms at the camp sites. Lovely lodge with friendly attendants.
A full-on resort in the middle of the most unexpected place. I plan to return when the pool and stables open, but my first visit was stunningly beautiful. Everywhere were masses of nesting seabirds, waterbirds, and a unforgettable view allowed me to have my first mini-vacation since February 2020. The geology alone was enough to give me pause with fossils and iron oxide all in hand's reach everywhere just outside the Lodge. The Swadley's Foggy Bottom is very cute, too and the meal options are everything good about Oklahoma in one menu. I really looking forward to bring my whole family back for a few days of R&R in May.
