Foggy Mountain Gem Mine

Hubby and I took our little girls here to do some gem mining. We did a big daddy bucket and found LOTS of really cool gemstones and the kids really enjoyed it. Def recommend this place for some family fun. We could have done this all day and regret not getting the wheelbarrow. But it was def worth it from what we found in our bucket.

If we could give this place 10 stars, we would! Cannot say enough wonderful things. We are here from Florida & brought our toddlers to see snow for the first time. We were excited to take them gem mining since this was an activity we loved as children! The staff here were the sweetest — the boys who helped us were very knowledgeable & SO sweet to our little kids! I felt like the pricing was very reasonable & both kids found many stones, even some large & rare ones! I loved how afterward they offered to sort through & teach about each one, & even let them touch a shark’s tooth from their gift shop. In the back you could see them making their jewelry by hand. Staff kept their masks on & the environment felt very safe & clean. Overall, such a wonderful experience & saved us on a rainy afternoon with two four year olds! The gem mining was fun & we did find a good amount of gems. However, I do not think they legitimately turn your actual stones into jewelry. There is no way to tell without magnification if the stone is good enough to use. There could be fractures or inclusions. And their prices for jewelry pieces are outrageous. Don’t fall for the jewelry gimmick- take your stones to a legit jeweler when you get back home.

Came up to do some skiing but got rained out. So went to foggy mountain gem mine! They have indoor and outdoor mining and a great view of the river. My husband and I split the 5 gallon bucket and spent over a good hour finding amazing gems! Large ones too! The staff if very friendly and knowledgeable. They helped us identify what we found and even gave fun facts. I ordered some stones to be cut and I cant wait to get them! We even went back one more time later in the week.nnStones came in the mail 2 weeks early! Got an email saying I had a package on the way with a tracking number. The stone are beautiful. I had a sapphire cut and set for a necklace, the garnet I just had cut as I couldn't decided if I wanted a necklace or ring. Then had a tigers eye and sodalite cut into cabochon.

Great service, fair prices and very knowledge staff. Would highly recommend.
