I graduated from Hickey College thru the Vet Tech Institute... Excellent education
A large portion of the staff cares more about what you wear than what you take out of the classes in which you are enrolled. There is not adequate space for students on breaks. There is no hot food available on campus and the vending machines are always empty. Attendance is strictly enforced, which is understandable because of the accelerated programming, but there are no exceptions.nOverall, I'm only here because I will graduate in 18 months.
I graduated from Hickey College in 2006. I graduated with my legal administrative assistant diploma. The placement department placed me within a month of graduation. I have nothing bad to say about Hickey College. It was a great experience. The small classroom setting allowed me to build friendships and receive one on one attention from the instructors. Recently, I graduated from the Hickey College bachelor degree program. The bachelor degree program allowed me to work full time while still attending classes two nights a week. Hickey College is a great place to gain essential skills and knowledge that will be directly related to the area you are studying in. I highly recommend Hickey College.
I graduated from Hickey College in 2013 with my diploma in Administrative Assistance. I recently used the placement program to find another job and I got two job offers from two great companies. A lot of employers contact Hickey College looking for graduates because they know the Instructors are great! Four of my interviews had people who either graduated from Hickey or worked with someone who graduated from Hickey, which tells you a lot if they are interviewing you and they went to the same school. Travis Hoskins in the placement department was so helpful and he is truly great at his job because I couldn't even get a interview on my own and he got me three! I am so grateful to him and the whole staff. I plan go back for my degree soon.
I attended Hickey College in the Administrative Assistant Program from September 2013 - May 2014. I had originally attended Lindenwood University and did not like the setup of traditional university at all. Most students cheered when classes were canceled, or easily slept through their 8am’s. Instructors released classes long before the scheduled end time, and the excitement of only having one-three classes a day quickly wares away.nUpon dropping out in March of my second semester, I searched for the perfect fit. I found Hickey, which promoted accelerated learning, effective time management, a quick 8 month program, and a placement program that is nearly guaranteed to find you a job. That sounded like a good enough plan to me, so I went in to check it out. I should mention that I owe more for 1.5 semesters at LU than I do for my entire time at Hickey College. An unfortunately expensive life lesson learned there.nFrom day one, I was welcomed, respected, and given personal attention as an individual student with a name; as opposed to Student #34689 out of thousands of others. There are options; such as your choice of program, a diploma or associates degree, if you want to continue on to receive a bachelor’s, etc. Students are expected to dress professionally, as they would on the job, instead of rolling out of bed wearing sweatpants and slippers. Instructors speak to you as an adult, an individual, and an equal. I am a young woman, and it was never assumed that I was less than anyone else because of my age or gender. There were about 19 students in my class. The ages range from 18-35 and we came from all over the place. Some students had a 2 hours commute every single day! I saw them every day from 8:00am-1:50pm. My instructors utilized every single moment of our 50 minute class periods. I had never been a good student, but made excellent grades at Hickey. The instructors actually wanted me to succeed and learn, not just cram information into my head to pass an exam. I was never tested on how well I can memorize a chapter of information.nI took classes such as keyboarding, all of the Microsoft Office Program classes, Human Relations, Professional Development, etc. Just to name a few there. This alternative to regular university absolutely requires discipline, self-responsibility and hard work. I also became involved in Student Council and we took part in several charity drives and things of that nature. Given the class schedule, I was also able to work in a restaurant bussing tables every night. It was exhausting, but now I am an Executive Assistant to a Financial Planner, and the three hours of sleep a night for 8 months was well worth it. I was snatched up just 2 days after my last day of classes, although this is not necessarily standard.nThe placement program is absolutely awesome. We had a graduate come and speak to our class to really tell us what “the real world is like,” and I was given the privilege to come back and speak to a class as well just a few months ago. Placement tries it’s best to ensure good matches for students and companies. You can always go back, even years later, to placement if you are looking for a new position. It is an absolutely wonderful feature.nI made some excellent friendships in my time at Hickey College. The administrative assistant in the office, one of my teachers who I enjoy speaking about art with, the placement director who calls on me whenever he needs a “go-getter”, students in the other programs like Accounting and Graphic Design, and I was even a bridesmaid in the wedding of a woman from my class. I now call her one of my very best friends. The small teaching staff greets me by name whenever I walk in the door, and is always thrilled to see me again. This warm environment is perfect for anyone that wants to work hard, have a degree, and likes to do things a little differently in life. I HIGHLY recommend it!
