Historic St. Mary's City

Incredibly cute! We went in the off season, but are excited to go at a time when the actors are there! Lots of excellent places for picnicking and walking around. The informational placards are super well written and really informative about the history and culture of Maryland.

Incredible place, lots of history. First European settlement in Maryland. Good presentation of African Americans as well as indentured servants. Also, good information on indigenous peoples who have lived here for 12,000 years.

They have a nice 3+ plus mile wooded trail there. Beautiful throughout the year. I patronize it most during the winter months because it is less crowded; however, it has been too wet and muddy lately, not to mention prevalent tree roots in some sections of the trail. These roots are trip hazards although the roots are painted blue to promote safety. On top of that there are many fallen trees, apparently park maintainers are taking their time to clear the trail or they are short of fund, I don't know. Other than that the trail is enjoyable.

Lots of interesting historical buildings to explore, friendly knowledgeable interpreters, and tons of space to stay socially distanced. Great place to bring the kids when cabin fever strikes.
