Beautiful space and awesome staff! Helped out with a friend's wedding last weekend and Sarah and the rest of the Filson staff were absolutely amazing! The new building is gorgeous and perfect for hosting a reception and the mansion was a stunning setting for the ceremony. They truly went all out to make sure the day went perfectly!

The Filson is a one-of-a kind local history center for Louisville that is housed in two beautiful buildings—one old and one new. Excellent public lectures (some free) by speakers from here and around the world can be experienced in their beautiful hall. Their library has some great resources, and fascinating exhibits can be seen. The staff at the Filson is wonderful.

I visited over 15 years ago, and I don't recall this location. Otherwise I would have taken a ton of pictures of this place.nI did get to see an exhibit of Lewis and Clark, at a downtown location that I recall being not far from the Slugger Museum.nIn my experience, Historical Society's offer a more personalized and unique historical focus, with less popularity or commercialization. And it's pretty cool to not feel rushed, or lose focus by having school groups around.nn© TIFA 2003

Was just walking with my girlfriend past the building and decided to go inside because we saw a small section of modern architectural style in the midst of historic district. Asked to see the gallery but there was noone to give a tour. Then another couple walked in and also wanted a tour so they decide to give us a special tour outside of usual tour hours. Our tour guide, Michael, was an excellent guide!! He told stories with enthusiasm and detail that was very interesting and engaging. The whole experience was amazing. After the gallery exhibits we toured the mansion which is also incredible! The wood craftsmanship all over the place is highly detailed and mastered. This place is a jewel in Louisville and I've never heard of it even though I've lived in this city 21 years.
