My daughter has been here since it was opened for middle school. I have been extremely happy with this school and how they have not only taught my daughter but also watched over her. The teachers, office personnel and administrators have been great. Of course, like anywhere else, issues arise but they are quick to take care of them. I had one child graduate from public school and I feel this school has better prepared my daughter for college and what comes next.
This is my child’s first year at this school (we just moved into the neighbourhood ). I find everything very efficient and professional. The best way, however, to know how good it is, is from my son's personal experience. He absolutely loves it! He’s very enthusiastic to get to school each day and his performance portrays this. The teachers are in contact with us to ensure we participate in his achievements, lesson updates, homework etc.nI would definitely recommend this school.
Dear Ms. Rains,nnGood evening.nnAs you may know, we have been a Somerset family for many years. Our daughter graduated in 2019 and our son is currently a Sophomore.nnOver the years we have had the pleasure of many outstanding teachers and staff alike, but every now and then there is a STAR that stands out among even the greatest.nnI am writing to you because I want to share some of the things I have noticed as a parent and even better, some of the comments that have come directly from our son.nnAs a family, we discuss our day to day happenings. Ms. Perez’s name has come up a lot this school year! In August, he had her Creative Photography class. Right off the bat he knew she was awesome. He said she is an outstanding teacher because she is very engaging, energetic, creative, passionate and generous.nnFrom day one he was drawn to her ability to keep the students engaged with her upbeat attitude and voice tone. No one was going to be bored in her class. She is warm, welcoming and always makes herself available for every student.nnDuring a time when many (I think most) were learning virtually, Ms. Perez made alternate assignments available to those who needed accommodations and many times personally delivered materials to individual student’s homes to be sure that anyone wanting to do the originally assigned project would have the materials needed to produce their masterpieces without delay.nnAdditionally, Ms. Perez has gone so far beyond to send home personally handwritten thank you cards through the mail to families who have sent supplies and/or paid a lab fee.nnWhen our son returned to brick and mortar in January he was especially looking forward to sitting in her 3D art class in person. He came home and talked about her energy and enthusiasm for art. He said she is a really good teacher because she cares and everyone knows it. She is passionate and it makes you feel good to be in her presence.nnShe celebrates everyone’s talent equally. She goes the extra (several miles) to be sure everyone has the same opportunities.nnShe is generous with rewards and even more-so with her time. She sends out reminders for early release, no school, upcoming quiz/test and homework due reminders...all with a hint of her fun personality within the text.nnShe has made purchases for cool art supplies and sent out instructions on how to enter to win the supplies through a raffle by email. What a great idea!nnLike I said, we have had many outstanding teachers over the years, but Ms. Perez truly shines brightly among them. I can think of no other way to show our deepest appreciation than to share these words with you in the hopes that SHE be celebrated with the same enthusiasm that she shows her students every single day (weekends included).nnWith Much Respect,
Remote learning has been great besides getting an easy first half and very hard subject second half. A little frustrated. I see her drowning in homework. Weekends should be relaxing and family time but she is always doing work. I wish her classes were better spaced out. Wish someone making the schedule cared enough to realize. It's a little late now but I hope it never happens this way again. Horrible 8th grade year for her. She loves the remote learning. But not so much the order of her classes.nI gave it a 4 because last year was good. They are on top of things. Cleanliness is good.
Okay school. The lunch is mediocre cafeteria lunch so know that. The teachers are nice (at least the high school teachers) but the principal is a bit strict so be nice to her. The school is good with requiring masks and social distancing. The students are nice and friendly but middle school should be separated from high school. Great Dual Enrollment program but there are not many AP classes (but dual enrollment classes make up for that). The counselors are nice and will help you feel prepared for college. Not many clubs or competitions to be a part of so there needs to be more extracurricular activities. The sports teams are bad and there is no football team. There is no library so you have to walk to IRSC to go to the library. Good science program but there should be more programs that relate to college majors such as training and stuff like that. There is no driver’s Ed course or SAT/ACT prep class. Although the school tries to show students scholarship opportunities, they should show more local scholarships to apply for.nnAlthough I feel this school was not bad and overall good, I probably would not send my kids here in the future; but I am very grateful for the time I spent at this school and the friendships I made and the school is trying their best to preserve the High School experience despite a terrible pandemic going on. :)
