Absolutely love Elmwood Cemetery for a “getaway” from the city. It’s always quiet and beautiful. It’s a bit rugged at times and could use some love, but altogether a great place to have a picnic, a nice walk, and just enjoy being in the greenery to reflect. (I wish the cemetery conservation society held more weekend hours to do grounds maintenance so I could participate.)

Cemetery has beautiful examples of Victorian monuments and markers. They host cool twilight tours and a 5k race every year. There seems to be a good corps of volunteers working to repair monuments and keep it looking nice.

Beautiful and calm place. I read in the Virginian Pilot that it was allowed to bike inside so I did. Slowly and quiet. Great place to walk and clear your head. It even has a couple of benches that I am definitely going to use for reading. Super clean and not creepy. I mean for a cementary.
