This is specifically for the summer camps conducted by the Henrico Parks and Recreation. I do not believe that the county is equipped enough to handle special need kids. They do mention and provide inclusion services where you can technically include a special needs child. But reality is far from this. A special needs child is different and behaves and thinks differently. Their brains are wired differently. So they cannot be expected to behave like a regular child. So actions/protocols should be changed or handled accordingly. When enrolling a special needs child they make parents fill humongous amount of paperwork. But I can say for sure , none of the people who handle your child are given that paperwork to read. And if they do not know the background, negligence is a common outcome . They also blame the child for any behavior different from the norm ,easily covering their negligence, which is completely unfair to the child, because they are special needs/autistic exactly for that reason. Your child is threatened to be excluded because he/she does not follow protocol which is a shame to their so called inclusion services. If you want your child to not be discriminated and excluded , stay away from these camps simply due to the lack of experience of the young employees of the summer sessions.

A county without public pools. Is that because all the private organizations have lobbied against them to continue receiving high membership fees? Do citizens really not want places to swim? Plus, all the programs that the department actually offers are so limited in engagement. If you see that every single time you offer a particular course it fills up within two hours, maybe consider offering more of that class instead of offering repeated programs that never receive registrations.

Our family has lived in Henrico for 29 years. We have truly enjoyed all the beautiful parks, ballfields, pavilions, ball rooms, where our family & friends could meet for picnics, birthday's, weddings, anniversary & retirement parties. The staff is amazing creating fun events for all ages. We have had so much fun over the years bringing our 4 daughters and now our 9 grandchildren. All 42 parks are always kept clean & beautiful. The staff is always professional & friendly. We are so blessed to live in Henrico County where they make sure we have so many great locations for families to have fun together.

Henrico County has one of the best Parks and Recreation departments. Well maintained parks, economical rental halls with kitchens and ample time for set up. Excellent preschool, youth, adult and senior classes.

Very disappointed that the county picked a park that was too small for the amount of people who wanted to see fireworks on July 4th. After waiting in traffic for an hour found out that they turned us and many others away. Big waste of time and disappointed children.
