Buyer Beware! Over the past week, I spoke to Atop Auto's owner, Jim Wilson about a blue 2015 Honda CR-V vin # 2HKRM4H59FH679152 he had for sale on his lot. While the vehicle had a clean title, there was no mention of any accidents the vehicle had been involved in. Jim reported a (70+ point?) vehicle inspection had already been done, and assured me that any issues found had already been corrected. Over the phone, Jim quoted $12K, which we felt might be a reasonable sales price, if everything checked out, and my family members came prepared to purchase the vehicle last Saturday. However, when my family members arrived on Saturday: * A PREVIOUSLY UNDISCLOSED COLLISION REPORT WAS PRESENTED * There were no maintenance records to be found * Although we thought it should be unnecessary, since Jim reported a vehicle inspection had already been done, we decided to take the vehicle to another shop and have the inspection re-done for $60, and that inspection revealed: * BOTH THE ENGINE OIL AND TRANSMISSION FLUID WERE QUITE QUITE DARK, WHICH IS EVIDENCE THE PREVIOUS OWNER(S) -- AT THE VERY LEAST -- NEGLECTED THESE CRITICAL MAINTENANCE ITEMS ON THE VEHICLE * The driver's side wiper arm was bent, and needed to be replaced * The ground battery terminal was covered with corrosion * At highway speeds, there was more than expected vibration, suggesting one or more tires were out of balance. The tires were worn, and replacement was recommended. * THE VEHICLE INSPECTION THAT JIM REPORTED HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE APPARENTLY HAD NOT BEEN DONE AT ALL! Below are the private party Kelly Blue Book (KBB) estimated values (low, mid, high): * Fair condition ($9948, $10680, $11411): * Good condition ($10712, $11741, $12229): With some hesitation, primarily due to both dark oil and transmission fluid, we decided to still make an offer on the vehicle: $11,000, contingent upon all the above maintenance items taken care of. Also, the KBB "private party" sales do not include his company's $240 "Doc Fee". Also, since we already have had the inspection done, his company adds another $75 "Inspection Fee". So our offer is really equivalent to a $11,315 private party offer. We felt this lower offer was reasonable, considering: * The higher risk we were taking, as the above-cited issues could result in future premature engine and / or transmission problems * The fact that vehicles with an accident history are priced 10% - 20% lower than ones that have never been in an accident Jim declined our offer for the vehicle, he said now he wanted $12.5K - $13K for it, citing that he wanted to base his sales price on KSL comparables that were higher than KBB. When asked if he would then at least reimburse the $60 vehicle inspection we had done, he refused even to do that. So that's our Atop Auto experience. We wasted a lot of time and energy, buyer beware!

We loved loved loved working with Jim! We are in love with our car. He was honest and upfront from the start and great at communicating. Completely changed our view of car salesmen. We definitely will be recommending Jim to all of our friends.

Awesome experience! I live in Wyoming and they worked very well over the phone with me. When our governer issued a travel directive to self quarantine for 14 days after leaving the state, they agreed to meet me in Evanston with the car. Definitely recommend!
