Milk River Overlook Trailhead

An easy hike on the trail to the west to get up to where the interpretive signs are on top of the hill. I would recommend walking up the road to where Medicine stone is located up by the towers as well for awesome views of where the Milk river empties into the Missouri. This is where Lewis & Clark had once stood in trying to figure out what river to take upstream in their quest to find a route to the Pacific ocean. These same bluffs had been used by Assiniboine Indians for their vision quests while fasting for hundreds of years. Assiniboine warriors were well known across the Great plains for being ferocious in battle. This was the home of the famous Assiniboine warrior White Dog, who was known to take solo war party trips to terrorize people in Blackfeet country. The Blackfeet still sing songs in honor of White Dog to this day. the Blackfeet finally caught up to White Dog and killed him in this very area at the mouth of the Milk river. Be very respectful when visiting this area, leave no trace.
