The Madison Freewell Baptist Church is on Baptist Church Rd. inside the Zaleski State Forest, the 2nd largest state forest in Ohio. The Atkinson Cemetery is next to the church. William Atkinson (1838-1920), a civil war infantry soldier and family are buried here and the Atkinson Ridge is named after the family. Madison Baptist Church was established February 2, 1870. The church does not currently hold Sunday services. Cemetery is still in use with some recent burials. It is well maintained and mowed, and only a few grave markers are in disrepair. Church and cemetery are the only developed property on Baptist Church Road inside Zaleski State Forest and in Madison Township. There does not appear to be any electric in the area, but note the church has a lighting fixture at the entrance and note the two front doors on the church. Road to the church is gravel gravel in some spots with paved roadway in most spots. GPS Coordinates: 39.28251, -82.3588
