Completely unexpected experience. Wanted to find a black owned bookstore and found this one. Went to the location on google maps and realized they’d moved. Found the new address but it was in a residential house. Called the number to be sure and we’re told to go to the back. Park in the driveway and the co-owner begins questioning why we were there, that she didn’t know us, and arguing that she was not called, as if it was our fault her husband instructed us to go in. She then asked what we were doing there, we said to buy books. She said, come on then, but the energy was so negative, we just left. Went over to Umajaa and spent $645 on amazing books and products. So sad we couldn’t endorse this business.
Olumola and his team are easy to work with, inviting, and have excellent customer service. Zawadi Books is now my favorite place to buy my books! They can ship books directly to you, and if they don't have a book in stock, they will order it in. I will always be going back!!!
Great store especially if your looking for African or African American history
