Center Congregational Church

The parking lot features a hilariously accurate birdhouse replica of the church. Not much is known about the circumstances of the construction or design of this church. In a cold February in 1826, 25 members of Gilmanton's First Congregational Church were tasked with forming a new church in Gilmanton Corner Village. In just 2 days time, they had purchased a lot for the building, just north of Gilmanton Academy in the center of the village. The frame was erected in June, and by the summer of 1827 the inside was completed, for a total cost of $3,500. Years after its original construction a choir loft was added at the south end of the auditorium, but was removed in the 1950s. The actual names of the designer and builders have been lost to time.
