Not the worst school in the world but can be much better. Students are always fighting each other , arguing with teachers and disrespecting guest teachers but they do have their moments when they shine. This school provides many academic opportunities with their university program and other organizations. In addition, it has a great music department for those who wish to be a part of one. In conclusion, this is a great school but what it lacks in its atmosphere it makes up in programs.

The school is not so great....bugs, skunks, nasty food and many others stuff. But it’s better than the other Southfield public schools. Plus if you love sports or music go to this school! Birney has a wonderful music program! And basically win everything. (Middle school). And I had great expierence I guess. ~Class of 22

Backwater school Basically a dumping ground for the worst students from other schools. most teachers dont have the basic skills to teach these kids. some staff members could use some adjustments( the receptionist in main office is the WORST) PARKING LOT HAS POT HOLES . lower grade students barely learn and most of the time they pass these kids anyways. they rarely do what they promise you when you put your child in the school NO ACCOUNTABILITY

I would never hate my kid so much to send them here. Personally, I think that everything is messy( the kids, building, etc...) and there is way too much shade thrown from one person to another. But still, it gets a star cause you can make friends with some people (not a lot) here.

The school isn’t getting better. It’s getting worst every year. There will be no university here after the school year of 2017-2018 (which is a beneficial education program). They don’t repair inside the school when it’s really in need of them. If a health inspector was to come to Birney, I think the school will get shut down. Plus they might make Birney into an Arts school with a “sound lab” and dance studio, but aren’t fixing Birney up first! There’s roaches and centipedes crawling on the floor. It’s sad. Sometimes at lunch they don’t serve drinks so you would have to drink out of the water fountains. Sometimes the water fountains aren’t safe to drink out of as well. The teachers are ok, the discipline is light. It’s an ok school.
