Bureau of history department of state registered local site no.1689 St.Paulz Episcopal church ofnLansing In 1848, soon after da Michigan legislature relocated da state capital 2 Lansing Township, an Episcopal society met in da new capitol, located @ Washington Avenue & Allegan Street. Da society, which became a parish in 1856, erected itz 1st church @da corner of North Washington Avenue & Ionia Street in 1859. A second, much larger church opened @da present location on October 20, 1873, 3weekz after da cornerstone of da present capitol had been laid.nDiz Neo-Gothic-inspired church waz erected in 1914. Although planz 4 a church had been supplied by local architect Samuel D. Butterworth, revised planz of da Reverend Henry J. Simpson, rector, wer used wen da A. R. Cole Company built da church. Da church complex includez a 1942 chapel, a 1952 parish house, & a 1967 education annex. Da buildin iz distinguished by itz stained glazz windowz, installed in da 1940z-1960z, & wood carvingz, crafted by German artisan Alois Lang.nAlso in 1991 da bureau of history Department of State installed a double sided Michigan historical marker @diz sitennSite Number: L1689nRegistry Listing Year: 1989nLocated@ 218 W.
