I am really surprised at the negative rating for Smith and DeRose. I have had auto and home insurance with them for about 30 years and have had nothing but positive interactions. I believe that all 3 of my children have required me to file several claims and they have always been handled quickly and professionally. We have had a salt water aquarium accident in the living room and a burst pipe in the basement and we could not have asked for them to be any more accommodating. Earlier this year we had a vehicle that died in our driveway and they completely covered the cost of the tow truck. I recently left Chicago with a dented fender and scraped cowl and they address it immediately. I didn't have to argue or explain anything. I would have no problem recommending them to anybody. They are a small company but that lets them care about their clients more than the big guys.

i normally don't take the time to write reviews, but i called for a quote and was treated very poorly. person who answered the phone was extremely rude and suspicious of why i wanted a quote in the middle of my policy term. he also acted completely helpless and assumed that i did not know enough information to get the quote over the phone when several other insurance agencies have been perfectly respectful and extremely helpful given the same information. there is no incentive for me to have another encounter with anybody at this agency.

After numerous attempts of requesting information from this agency being ignored, I was finally able to speak to a representative of the agency who was extremely rude and non-complaint of my request. As a consumer and a professional that is in the field of customer relations, I question the integrity of an insurance agency being able to meet the needs of their insured during the time of disaster, a personal loss of life, or simple direction of filing a claim, when clearly they lack the ability to show compassion or concern for their present and past insured’s needs. I certainly hope that they gain some sense of reality and learn how to retain and meet the needs of the people they are responsible for insuring.
