Awesome hidden nature preserve with an original Santa Fe Railroad caboose turned into a self sustaining living quarter and museum. The volunteers running it are super friendly and will explain everything about the caboose and the railroad items around the premises and their history. There is also a marsh lookout deck and access to the river bank. At the river bank there’s a fire pit a picnic bench and a stationary grill. Kids will love the place as theres allot of stuff they can touch. On a nice day I suggest getting there early to snag the awesome picnic spot ud83dude09

A place to learn, a place to join, a place for relaxation & meditation. You can bring your children here; eat your lunch here; catch-up with old friends & make new friends. In the Spring the prairie comes alive as is sheds its winter cloak. Summer blossoms the prairie in a rainbow of unspeakably beautiful color & texture. Autumn is not sadness; it is another page with it's own display of a different kind of glory: pastels give way to sepia tones & shades of shortening days. Finally, Winter returns to cover Santa Fe Prairie with a blanket of snow & sending seeds underground in needed rest, preparing for a new day & season of salvation & rejuvenation. This small piece of uncultivated soil is, indeed, a history in & of itself. This marvelous undisturbed land may look like a diminutive example of prairie in a state once almost entirely prairie. However, don't you ever say that around the men & women who have toiled in labors of their love to care for & to maintain, not a small preserve of tens of thousands of years of history; the Santa Fe Prairie is grand beyond measure; a true giant in the growing list of yet to be discovered & cared for patches of prairie that define the prairie state & those dedicated volunteers who labor to protect & preserve every patch of untouched, virgin land that can be found. The labor of a few becomes a benefit for all. The beauty of a prairie favors no season.nnThis is my meditation on the Santa Fe Prairie…
