The store atmosphere is wonderful filled to the brim with all sorts of books. I ended up picking up an anthology of 90s feminist essays and a puzzle (at a great price). The clerk was really friendly and helped me place an order for a book they didn't have in stock. Really happy to support a small business like Jane Addams Book Store.

Such an enjoyable place to browse for books! I also ordered a book from them recently and they received it so promptly and it was a fair price! Will be ordering all my books through them from now on!

The Jane Addams Book Shop is the kind of place you want to get lost in. I wandered in today during a rainstorm and was met with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the intoxicating aroma of old paper. The store is clean and the staff all wear masks. The mystery room on the third floor is my favorite spot in the whole store. The light tap of rain of the roof and windows and the warm lighting made this shop everything I could hope for in a used book store. I will be back (and soon!).

We drove 2+ hours to visit this used bookstore. It had been advertised online through Ilinois places to visit. When we arrived we needed to use the restroom, of which there was none. We were told to go across the street to a hotel to use their facilities. There are three floors of books, only accessible via stairs. We both have arthritis in our knees making it very difficult to use the stairs to shop. It was a fun place to browse the many, many books, but a few standard accommodations for those traveling a long distance seems reasonable. Perhaps it would help for this info to be included on their social media pages, so others won't expect restrooms and an elevator. The staff member was very kind and helpful. It is located in a lovely area of downtown.
