Cape Rock Park

Cool little place to visit for a quick outing at any time of year! It's got a nice view of the Mississippi River. Kids love climbing up the hill and walking down the old stone steps. There's a beautiful Kwanzaan Cherry tree in bloom in the Spring.

Great by the way down the way is Sandy Beach don't have to go to Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Ocean or Atlantic Ocean if you want sand in your feet Mississippi is connected to the Gulf. Can also have bonfire. If had a chainsaw could saw these trees down water does get up this high one day it will be for 40 days and 40 night's.

The city of Cape Girardeau was started with the development of a trading post along the Mississippi by Girardot. He built the trading post on a rock outcrop at a bend inthe Mississippi. There is a good view both upriver and downriver from this rock outcrop rising perhaps 100 feet above the river. While the portion nearest the water was cut away to allow a railroad to run right next to the river, the rest of the outcrop is still there. It's just a small park, but as you climb to the top and see the view of the river, you can understand how it would be easily noticed along the river. Modern Cape Girardeau is just a few miles to the south along a flat area that is much better for loading and unloading watercraft along the Mississippi (and much more prone to flooding). You're not likely to visit here more than 30 minutes or so, but it's even an interesting drive to get there among the hills and residences nearby.

Odd little park would be nice if people didn't leave trash everywhere.

Great view of the river. Quiet and peaceful. No parking lot.
