A nice easy walk along the tow path, 10-15 minutes, from parking lot to the tunnel. The tunnel is about .6 mile long and dark, a flashlight is needed! A very interesting historical site!

Cool walk through a completely dark tunnel that is well preserved from the late 1800s! When we came out on the other side there was lots of cool ice formations on the rocks (Feb, 2021).

Beautiful tunnel in middle of nowhere and in the mnts right on west Virginia and Maryland line. Be careful bear tracks of momma and Cubs everywhere

Really nice walk, would definitely suggest taking pictures and going in the tunnel. If you go up top or want to, be VERY careful because the blocks can be slippery

The paw paw tunnel is a great place for a hike and some history. When you walk through the complete darkness ( bring a flashlight) you can't help but feel amazed at this massive engineering project.
