Small little museum was definitely worth the pit stop. The history is interesting the amount of items in the small building is impressive without being too much. Our guide was great and very well informed. You can tell he is excited about his job. The mummies, which is what brought us here, are just mind blowing to see. Please do yourself a favor and check them out, along with the rest of the neat museum!

As a regular visitor in the beautiful town of Philippi from Richmond, VA, I finally stopped into this museum. I knew that Philippi had some history, especially from the Civil War, but I never realized the vast extent if it.nnI came in, and a retirement aged gentleman whose name I unfortunately did not catch, was a wealth of information. He knew his history, his town and his State like the back of his hand.nnThis is one of the best small museums, I have ever seen. Some of the exhibits you can see are two mummies and the drum played at the surrender of Appomattox, something more than worthy for the Smithsonian. After seeing the displays and hearing a very interesting one on one lesson from the gentleman I talked to, I came away a more educated man with an even greater appreciation for this community.nnOne a side note, as I started to turn from the counter to get my phone I left in my car, for the first time in my life I had an unexplained moment of dizziness and next thing I knew I was down on the floor before just as quickly coming back around. He was very kind to me, showing me to a private restroom and then offered me one of his personal soft drinks and a chair for me to rest in. I have no idea what happened there but there is a good man behind that counter.
