The Freeport Wetlands are just off TX 288. The area has a small parking lot for perhaps a dozen or so vehicles. It seems to be adequate though, as fewer than a dozen cars come at the same time. The area is very clean, has lots of places to walk around and take in the view, birds, and marsh/wetlands area. There is a convenient viewing platform a couple of hundred feet from the parking area. It's about 7 feet above the marsh and provides a panoramic view. Birds can be seen swimming and in flight. It's a great place for a quick stop right off the freeway. You can park, stretch your legs, and take a self guided tour. The place is very quiet, rather surprising considering its off the freeway, but the spot was well chosen to absorb noise and provide a quiet sanctuary area.

Great place to learn about the wetlands and animals! We had a great time around the entire trail and were able to take in the great views!
