Stax Museum of American Soul Music

We almost didn't come here given that we aren't soul music fans but I'm so glad we did. The historical significance of this place and the musical contributions of these artistes are important to be aware of. The exhibits are well displayed and there is a good amount of audio and visual narration to make one feel like they got their money's worth. You may want to Shazam the songs while watching the introductory video during the first part of the tour!

I'm glad I went to the Stax Museum! I went there with my girlfriend and her friend from out of town and we all had a great time learning, listening to good music, and taking pictures!nnAs a musician myself, I really loved this experince and I've gained lots of knowledge and walked out with a greater appreciation of Southern music and a better understanding of African-American history as well.nThe woman who answered the phone when I called the museum could have been more personable and warm and the gentleman at the front desk could have been more prepared but overall the employees there were professional and were kind to us.nnThank you Stax Museum! You are important to the people of Memphis, the people of the United States and the people of the world.

I love the music from Stax. But I’m not an expert. Don’t know all the the artists and titles by name.nnBut I felt it’s kind of required.nA lot of details about artists shoe size but not may samples of their music. And if there were screens they all run at the same time in the same room.nnWould have appropriate more musical history, evolvement, and headphone station.nAnd less biography and less dates when - who - released what.

Wow. Overwhelming well done museum. We spent several hours absorbing all the displays. It helped that we watched the Stax documentary (Take Me to the River) prior to going. Employees were friendly and helpful. Information presented in a positive fashion.

One of the best parts to me and my family about this memphis trip.. really good and informative. Would love to go again just to learn a bit more...
