THIS is the place to visit when anyone wants to learn about the musical legacy of Memphis. The museum takes you from the days of sharecroppers to the sights and sounds of legendary recording artists such as Isaac Hayes and Elvis. Give yourself about 90 minutes to follow the audio tour all the way through. Highly recommended !

Very interesting museum. Requires 1h30 easily or 2h if you are interested in both music and history. Really worth visiting.

Nice museum, not too big, an hour experience focusing (and rightfully so) on southern musicians. The first part describe the way of life and roots

In our trip to Memphis we had to decide which museums to go due to lack of time. We chose the Civil rights museum (amazing!) and this one. We thought that this would be better for us since we didn't know much about Memphis history and music. We did see that the reviews were much better (and way more reviews) for Graceland and STAX, and we should probably have chosen one of these. In my opinion, the museum is ok, they gave us audio and you could self-guidedly listen to multiple podcast. It seemed a bit disorganized and there is a lot of general information. It was good to get a glimpse of everything but if I had to choose again, I would choose STAX. Graceland is pretty expensive although it looks amazing from the outside.

Set aside at least 2 hours for this if you want to enjoy all the variety of music available on the personal audio guide. Superb for history on how all the different genres came together in Memphis and helped musicians make it big.
