Carson-Newman University

I'm writing my review as a guest performer and speaker at CN.nnOn February 24, 2021 I visited Carson-Newman University to give a workshop to the Bonner Scholars (a service based scholarship organization). The staff that coordinated my stay and logistics were incredibly kind, patient, flexible, and enthusiastic about all the needs for my presentation. I primarily operated out of the Stokely Memorial Cafeteria and the space here was well suited for a presentation with adequate spacing to accommodate social distancing measures.nnAfter my more formal presentation, I conducted a rap/hip-hop/word farming concert in the main cafeteria. The acoustics were good and the technical support staff weas attentive to feedback, scratches in audio, and audio leveling during the live performance.nnI stayed in the Seaton Guest House on campus which was a homey facility. I could definitely feel the presence of history as the house retains a lot of its old time attributes.nnI want to give specific thank yous to the Carson-Newman Center for Community Engagement, Bonner Scholars Team, Multicultural Affairs office, the Eagle Production Company, Student Activities, and other individuals/organizations that made my visit possible and extraordinary. Thank you to the magnificent students that took me on the campus tour, thank you to the students I sat down with for dinner, and thank you to the students who gave me feedback and encouragement after my performance.nnCarson-Newman is definitely a time capsule in our present day world, but there are new minds revitalizing the campus to ensure it remains a place of ongoing growth and development that promotes the success of its student body academically and socially.

I’m a third generation Carson-Newman grad. I graduated with a double-major in Computer Science and French. Unfortunately, neither of those majors are offered any more. I was heavily involved in the Art Department under the greats: David Underwood and Bill Houston. The CN experience was fantastic for me. It set me up for my career and also gave me lifelong friends that I’ve been close to for two decades now. Go Eagles!

Carson Newman is a great school with a beautiful campus and a family friendly atmosphere.
