We had a wonderful experience with French Broad Outfitters today. We have our own kayaks so we booked just the shuttle service. The outpost has a great and friendly vibe and the staff was great. They loaded our kayaks onto their trailer, shuttled us to the drop in, and unloaded them for us. We did the Biltmore trip and, as newbies to kayaking, the 6 mile trip was perfect. Some fun little rapids and lots of leisurely, lazy river float time. When we arrived back at the take out about 2 1/2 hours later, the outpost was quite busy, with live music being enjoyed by many. We will definitely be returning for more kayaking trips and hope to tackle the 12 mile trip one day :)

We went on the 6 mile French Broad River kayak. We had never kayaked before but it was very easy and the kayaks provided were very nice. There was a cup holder and a place to put a bag. The float was lovely and relatively short (took us about 2 hours). You will definitely get a little wet as is the nature of kayaking, but it was a hot day and felt good. All of the staff was super helpful and friendly. Everyone wore masks, including the staff, and it is required while taking the shuttle to the put in. There were makeshift changing stations and porta-potties at the base. We enjoyed and would do it again!

I love that this place is right on the water and between Hominy creek and the French Broad river. They had live music from “Supertight,” playing funk jam and very relaxing. The area is vast plenty of places to sit and chill and even swim with friends family kids and dog friendly. The beer selection was mainly canned with a few options for draft which were decent. They had a good truck and it was a fun time. That being said no one was wearing masks or it was not required. That goes from the staff to the guests. Although there was a good amount of room their wasn’t any social distancing to speak of. Keep that in mind if you come here.

The Biltmore paddle was fun and on a beautiful stretch. Given high water and current it took only about 1:40 for six miles, but I think $45 a head was still good value. For those with GPS out on the water, Biltmore House is seen on the right at 4 miles.

Great place. Easy parking and easy access to the river. Also a great place to just chill in the water or by it. Has music sometimes and a food truck. Make sure to bring water shoes.
