I love this church. As stated in the service program, it is a church that accepts who you are and where you are in life and allows you to explore Christianity without pressure to conform or believe a certain way. Pastor is awesome, great down to earth sermons that have depth in foundation but are not condescending and I find that really appealing. And I love the sanctuary! The unique stained glass windows are really something to see - all focused on the beatitudes and both the art and message of them contribute to making the space a true sanctuary for one's spirit. And the people there are really welcoming. Looks like about 100 or so for Sunday worship, which makes it more personal and friendly, and seems like a very kid-friendly atmosphere and tone. (I posted this to Yelp as well).
My wife and I have been attending Second Baptist for nearly 10 years now. We were initially draw to it because has a progressive leaning. We were further enticed by the wonderful, but humble music program. We both now sing in the choir. The pastor has a very comfortable and thoughtful approach and the people are really easy to be around.
I am a long time member of Second Baptist Church. Throughout my experience at Second, I have found the membership to be welcoming and affirming regardless of anyone's individual journey in the Christian experience. Mutual personal support, affirming acceptance of diverse view points and thoughtful physical surroundings make Second Baptist a wonderful place to be.
I visited a number of churches when I came to the area before I started to attend this church. This church is very welcoming and friendly. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new church.
Strong to the Word but exceptional in the diversity of it membership and mission. Red, Orange, Black, White or Gay; a safe harbor for the living.
