I feel it’s unfair to leave one star with no explanation, and I debated about writing this review. This is extremely long, but so strange I feel it should be explained. I started with Joe at one location and followed him to his current business, so I am a client of at least ten years. I had short, pleasant interaction with both he and his receptionist Jenna each year.nnI called there this year with a question that Carrie was unable to answer. I had not dealt with her before. The IRS was closed due to the pandemic, I tried finding my own answer, and called back the next day to ask a yes or no question based on what I found on my own. Carrie started screaming at me as to how busy she was (even though tax season was extended three months), and told me how much time she had wasted with me the day before (often saying it twice). I finally raised my voice to get a word in to say I had one simple question. She hung up on me. I was astonished. I called back and another employee said Carrie was working from home and probably acted like that since no one could hear her. No one could help me.nnI talked to Joe several times in regard to my original question and this situation. He thanked me for letting him know because he said with Carrie working at home he wouldn’t have known. He was checking on my original information (which he did provide, and verified the question I was trying to ask) and was going to find out why I was treated so rudely. Joe did call back and he said Carrie “felt just terrible about the way she acted,” but by the end of the conversation he said I wasn’t “accepting responsibility” for raising my voice and that I had never told him that. I actually did tell him Carrie wouldn’t let me speak and raising my voice was the only way I could get a word in. Joe said she hung up because she was frustrated.nnI admit to being shocked at Joe’s seeming to minimize this, even saying he would have expected this behavior from a different employee. What? Why does a boss have the expectation of employees treating customers in that manner? I told him she should be apologizing, not flipping this on me. He said he would “keep us apart” even though I have never physically met her and then he said they would call the next day to “grovel.” This was unbelievable. I told Joe I didn’t expect groveling, and while I felt an apology would be the right thing to do I wanted to clear the air to continue my business. I was willing to overlook it (I really wonder at my judgment in first being willing to forgive this all around bizarre behavior) but didn’t feel that was an appropriate way to leave things. The next day in a follow up Joe said he wasn’t going to do that to Carrie because she had one bad day and he didn’t know what she said from home, but that he hoped to keep me as a client. Since he said she felt terrible it would seem she told him exactly how she acted.nnI can’t think of another business I have dealt with, especially this long, acting like this is appropriate. Who tells a client they didn’t take responsibility? I didn’t swear, didn’t threaten her, I had a business question for my tax preparer. Obviously I won’t be returning.

KMJ is a great accounting firm for small businesses. The value that they offer is exceptional, and at an affordable rate. They're always available for questions without charging by the minute like some firms do. Great service for any small business's needs!
