I absolutely love tjmaxx and all their stores, however very disappointed in lack of customer service from this location. I moved into the area 3 months ago and make weekly trips here as I love a good find. Typically I rarely ever return however due to the world circumstances I have to bring things home to try on. This week I went in there to return, of course found a ton of things I loved and did not need so wanted to exchange . Finally went to check out with my hands full and explained I had a return. She then explains that it had to be two separate transactions, shocked I explained that I was fine to exchange. She then tells me no that’s not an option, so I asked her to call a manager over because this is always the case. The “manager” that walked over was very rude and seemed to have an attitude, mentioning how other tjmaxx locations do this but this location doesn’t. I am well aware this is a huge corporation and what is done in one store will be done in others. She really shouldn’t be in any type of leadership role as she sets a bad example especially for any new hire not to mention the customers. I asked the cashier, then to call another manager because I did not want to deal with the last manager, the cashier was very sweet and I am pretty sure felt awkward and explained she was just following the rules as she was new. The other manager, walks over and tells me again their policy is two separate transactions as their system doesn’t allow unless it was the same item for a different size. In 20 years in retail as a person that has held many different positions I have not heard this. If that is the case maybe your return policy should have better wording and not say “exchange”. To make matters worst, once again I explained that I have been allowed to do an exchange not a separate return in this particular store and I wasn’t aware they had a policy change. Typically if you are within the 30 days and tags attached, you as the consumer can decided if it’s an exchange or a return . She said that would have never happened here and that they had a new system update but the policy has always been the same. I decided to do my return and leave all the things I wanted to buy because I was extremely frustrated and disappointed in their lack of ability to do their jobs and follow a policy that is put in place. I didn’t ask for accommodations or special treatment, I simply wanted the policy to be followed. I have shopped all over the US with their stores and have always been very happy but this definitely makes me think twice before spending my money in this location. I will never step foot in there. I did call their customer service and they seemed to be shocked at the information given at this store as the return/exchange policy in all their stores is the same.
