St Croix Falls Public Library

I love that they have a children's area. I wish though, they had a more closed off space from the adults. My son loves the Montessori style toys they have there.

My friend and I decided to meet halfway and bring our kiddos to the library and let them play on this chilly winter day. We are SAHM’s and it’s hard to find free or cheap activities to do with the kids. I suggested the library because I’ve been there a few times to see Santa and other activities and always thought it would be fun to bring my son into the beautiful play area. We got there and the children were playing. My son wanted to have a ride in the wagon so I saw pillows in there and figured it was for the kids. I didn’t make it 20ft before I was told it was for the book drop offs. I explained that I thought since it had the pillows it was for the kids and she said “the pillows are for the books” in an unfriendly tone. Ok, so I brought the wagon back. Then I redirected my son to a different toy. Three of my friends kids were playing in the rock pillow area. They were giggling and having a good time. A young man came over to where we were and watched all the kids for a minute or two before he leaned down and told us that “if the kids are going to be climbing on each other then some kids have to come out”. I get that there are probably some safety concerns but if so don’t put something like that in the play area. Children are going to climb, play and explore. They weren’t being out of control or wild and we were watching them the entire time. At that moment we picked up all the toys, packed up and left. I have never felt so unwelcome while out somewhere with my son before. If you want to have a beautiful place like this and let children learn and explore, let them do just that. I’m upset because I was really looking forward to today. We both drove 30 minutes one way and didn’t even spend that amount of time inside the library because the employees made us feel like they were annoyed instead of being happy their facility was being used. We will bring our children where they are welcome on future play dates.

St. Croix library is really nice and clean. I live outside of the county and pay to use the facility because I enjoy the extra classes and activities. Living two miles away makes it easy for the teens to walk in groups to get books as well. Then they have a safe place to hang out and enjoy educational material.

I've never been to a library that is so involved with doing so many fun activities for kids! They have critter time once a month where they bring different animals to show and teach the kids, they have fun little celebrations with games, I just love this library! Very friendly staff and fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Nice library, some poor design. Not sure why you put an area for adult reading right next to the kids areas... some libraries were way better thought out like amery where they are on the opposite sides of the library. Kids can be excited and adults can read. Otherwise I love this library, and my kids love Margaret. Many story times here and they always were well designed. My kids were he only ones and Margaret made cookies with them, needless to say they loved it and still talk about it.
