I share the highest respect for Benson FD. They may not have all of the necessary staffing because of city budgeting, but the reality is, when something happens (accidents, fires or other emergencies); Benson FD is on the scene with other First Responders tending to the victims. I have seen first hand the Proactive efforts of the Fire Department. Back several years ago, we had a massive wildfire that required Mescal, J6; BLM, Benson FD as well as three other agencies to contain the fire that nearly overtook the populate area of Dragoon. All of responding agencies including Benson FD have my deepest gratitude.
The City seriously needs to open their eyes. This fire department has gone down hill fast. More and more often they are not responding to calls or have little to no staff. The X City Manager had people fooled into thinking Keith (the chief) was running a top notch place with lots of staff. In reality he and his people are hiring people from out of town and chasing out all the good local Volunteers we had. The house down the street from mine burned down the other night because of this stupidity. The "great benson fire dept" had to wait for all the other surrounding area fire departments to come do the work for them. The City needs to start looking into to this and what shame it is that they allow it to continue to get worse for so long. Once in a while people might get lucky and get a response but all and all there are people suffering and waiting for help. As we all know the ambulance service isn't real top notch here either. The people of Benson deserve better emergency services. If this City thinks the villages are going to come to this town and work out for the better of the community they better think again because people want to feel safe in their homes.
