I've been coming to this particular library on MLK & Locust since I was a kid and I've never had a bad experience until now. The problem isn't in the library staff itself. It's the security that this particular branch has employed. The problem? Very rude and overbearing. They make the guests feel uncomfortable and unwanted. I feel as if they haven't been trained well on how to deal with the public. From the time I walk in, they are giving me looks and saying random comments that I feel are unnecessary. This particular location is by far the worst library in the city of Milwaukee. Again, the security there is like a Maximum state prison. It's unnecessary and frankly I don't think they are a good representation for the library. Other customers have also voiced there displeasure over how the security interacts with the public. It's one thing to do your job and another thing to be as unprofessional and overbearing as possible. Its really no excuse for it. This library is literally next door to the district 5 police station. I'm an educated African American Male who gets the side eye and mistreatment every time I walk into the library by this particular African American female security guard. I simply cannot fathom why she feels the need to target me every time I walk in.nMy suggestion? Better training from the security company on how to deal with the public in a non confrontational way! This is being written as of Tuesday September 22nd 2020 by a very active person in the community. May I suggest hiring a more qualified candidate for the job? Lots of people are complaining. Its is 2:15 pm .
Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was pleasant experience. The library was clean and the children were well behaved. It's been 25 years since my last visit and not much has changed. I will definitely be returning back.
This is a really good but it's just the imature kids that go here that ruin it. I used to love this library the staff was nice, there was good programs, it was a nice and quite place, I could check out interesting books but I wasn't the only one it was usually a group of kids that were really rude and loud and that just ruined the experience for me. A place that I used to go for some quite time, to relax, play games and read books is different now and most of those things I can't do...
Understandably, there are a bunch of kids that hang out here because there’s a high school right down the street but please teach your kids manners in public and to respect their elders. One of the staff REPEATEDLY asked a group of kids to leave because they were under 18 and couldn’t be there without their parents during school hours. And the boys were so immature and rude about it. I have kids if my own and I WISH THEY WOULD! I had to wash my hands before leaving, the toilet seat had piss all over it but the staff seemed okay to me.
This library is horrible baby's crying people talking on their cell phones, listening to music on their cell phones, rapping out loud. It's so loud I don't see how any one can study in there. It's ridiculous, the only thing this library is good for is renting books and maybe the programs/classes that the library offers. The staff are really nice but they can't control these idiots, its sad, very sad. The staff definitely have their jobs cut out for them.
