Memorial Public Library

I would not recommend visiting here with kids. I've been here probably 10-15 times with my kids over the past 2.5 years hoping each time that our experience will be better, as it is very close to where we live. But each time we come the staff makes it an absolutely miserable trip for us. An example of a typical visit: during the summer reading program (designed to interest children in reading, I'm assuming) my 8 and 6 year old would be very excited to turn in their work only to have the librarian LITERALLY ROLL HER EYES right in their faces, snap at them to stand back and sigh heavily over and over as she processed their entries. We stayed polite and as pleasant as we could, thinking maybe it was a bad day, but apparently every day was a bad day. My children are now too intimidated to ask for help in locating a book, or to approach the staff alone. If you really want your children to be interested in and enjoy reading and libraries, I recommend the Verona library, despite the drive. Their staff obviously care about encouraging literacy in children and time and again go out of their way to make sure my children have the books they need. I am done with the Brodhead memorial library and will not be setting foot there again. Sad that my tax dollars are being used so worthlessly. What good is a beautiful new building if the staff sucks the joy and life out of it?

Brodhead is lucky to have a wonderful library with a caring staff. My kids have been welcome at the library since they were toddlers,. My oldest feels so at home at the library she applied for a job and works after school as a shelver. The library director is especially adept at working with concerned patrons, and is happy work out any issues.

My kids love coming to this library!!! Staff is great!!! Any issues should really be addressed with the library and not google.
