Havasupai travelers... Do not use AirWest helicopter service, if you do, do not get on with a local. They will take you to a completely different landing site 7 miles away from the trailhead. They will tell you to wait for a shuttle that will never come. Then you will have the option of hiking the 7 miles or paying a local to drive you to the trailhead. You will be tired and blister ridden, you will think it’s the best way out. But this is my warning to you, speaking from experience.

Had the pleasure of meeting my pilot Jim. We had a great flight. Jim was very professional.

Flew air west out of havasupai yesterday. We waited 12 hours for a flight because natives go first and there was a funeral 100 of them were trying to go to. They warn you locals go first so it is what it is. Super professional. Take cash or money order only down there. Definitely worth the wait to not hike out. Talented pilot

Be weary!!!! Beautiful place but horrible staff including Airwest Helicopter company. Very rude, not helpful or informative. Not only did we wait 3 hours due to staffs error on putting us on the wrong list to fly our bags out, we never saw our bags again...period! By the time we figured out the error and finally started our hike out, it was 1pm. Didn't arrived at Hiltop till 7pm. Not one person in sight. Pitch black! No one to ask where we pick up our bags let alone see any bags. Not even the man that was manning the parking lot shack when we first arrived. After waiting around for someone almost 3 more hours on top of the strenuous 7 hour hike back, we decided to leave. Next morning I sent a lengthy email explaining what happened and tried calling the Havasupai office where of course, no one answered. Finally a few days later I get an email from Stacy at Airwest giving me the whole "were not responsible for any lost or stolen items" BS. She then has me call the tourist office to ask them. After calling and calling, they finally answer and I explain and they to give me the whole "not responsible " speach. At that point directed me back to Airwest. I thought it was funny how each company pointed fingers at the other not taking any accountability. Eventually I was told that security was NOT on duty thst night and no bags were ever found. Stacy at Airwest finally left off saying "I dont know what to tell you". No companion, no remorse, nothing. She acted as if I was disturbing her day. So sad! Apparently this happens more often then we hear about. After waiting months for this trip and preparing, this is what we ended with. Loved the sites at Havasupai but sadly our trip was jaded because of this. When I think of our time there, it leaves me with a bad taste. Hopefully my story reaches you and will help prepare you in case you plan on using the helicopter. Ask lots of questions, put tags on ALL your bags, get the names of people you speak to, take pictures of your bags and the receipt you signed for payment or better yet, bring cash. Good luck!
