Washington DC Fire & EMS Station

I have lived on Capitol Hill for almost 25 years. During that time, I have witnessed this firehouse in action (too) many times in response to medical crises involving neighbors, new and old. In each of several dozens of instances, I have been as impressed by the expedition and expertise as by the compassion of this firehouse. Whether responding to an unhomed neighbor in anonymous life-threatening distress at a bus stop or to a neighbor in life-threatening distress surrounded by anxious family and friends at home, this firehouse has been exceptional. One experience has compelled me to post this long-overdue shout-out.nnThis firehouse (Engine 18, Truck 7, on Barracks Row . . . I am a small-town gal, we just call it the firehouse) recently responded to a medical emergency during a celebration at a community center. Not only did this firehouse respond with expedition and medical expertise, they did so with diplomacy and a dose of compassionate fellowship and humor appropriate to the moment. When the emergency had been resolved, a very special anniversary celebration resumed.nnI appreciate that my experiences, first in a small-town of another era and then in two of our biggest cities, might not be universal. But, as 2018 draws to a close, I want to express my appreciation to this firehouse, and my wishes for a safe and happy new year for every one of my neighbors and every one of our first responders.

Seems to be a hopping place. Staff are friendly when you walk by.
