Very knowledgeable and caring. I have an eye disease and he picked up on it before I had a chance to tell him. He took the time to share things I needed to do and watch for.

I went in for a contact lens exam and after a very condescending lecture about how my brand of contacts aren't good enough, and how he would never prescribe them to anyone, he ended up NOT giving me a contacts prescription because I wasn't going to order through him. (My brand of contacts are Acuvue, by the way) He dilated my eyes even though I said I didn't want them dilated because I had to go to work after the appointment. He does not listen and is a rude person. I do not recommend using him as your optometrist unless you are already doing things his way. I would give zero stars if that was an option.

Awful, just awful. I went in for an eye exam because I wanted to go to LensCrafters and get glasses quickly (mine were broken). I was told I would have a $40 co-pay. I specified on my paperwork “no”for dilating my eyes. Then Dr. Hutchens was an hour late for my scheduled appointment. He examined my eyes, dilated them anyway and did another exam with them dilated. He then proceeded to tell me that my eyes were “over-corrected”. Then here is the kicker- he told me that I was wearing the wrong prescription.... I have worn glasses & contacts for 30 years with the same prescription?!?! I then went to leave- was told I would owe $80- which I questioned and then was told “it rolled over into medical”. I paid the $80- I had already been there for about 3 hours at this point and left. I went next door, and the girl front the front desk came over to lenscrafters; told me I had overpaid- and then reimbursed me $40 back. I have my glassses- and I see better with no glasses or contacts then this. I’ll never go back.

He didn’t spend a lot of time on my exam and was really pushing me to get contacts, which he knows would be a higher copay from me. I get that he saw me late in the day but he seemed in a hurry to get me out of there.

My insurance pays for one eye exam a year. I am limited on the providers I am allowed to see for this. I chose to see Dr. Hutchins next door to Lens Crafters in the Fort Smith mall. HUGE MISTAKE! I paid a $10 copay for my yearly eye exam. I was in and out of the exam room in less than 2 minutes. I received my glasses and the prescription is wrong!! I am seeing double out of the left lens. Checked my prescription and it is absolutely wrong. This was not a mistake by getting the wrong lens, I have the wrong prescrition! No big deal, I thought I'd have him re-examine my eyes and get a new lens. So I thought. He charges a $25 re-evaluation fee for his own screw ups! His front desk girl, Stephanie, was very rude. Apparently her manager is out on maternity leave and there is no one covering during her leave. ??? Dr. Hutchins practice and staff is a joke. I do not recommend going here. I'm going to pay $86 for another exam and Lens Crafters is going to replace my lens for free. Lens Crafters has been great! I'd rather pay for a whole new exam than to give Dr. Hutchins office $25 more. Piss poor customer service at it's finest. Dr. Hutchins office only gets one star reviews because zero is not an option.
