Unless you are attending the college, following the history of Billy The Kid, or Working here, why stop. This whole town is way overpriced money trap for tourists, captive college students and locals who cant afford to shop or travel much. There are some good places to get cheap and decent meals, The Hilltop restaurant, The coffee shop, The Roadrunner Grill at the golf course. If you are touring the old west, the recently remodeled Casteñada Hotel at the railway is a picturesque snap shot in time, excellent food and staff, but at a price point. Most of the properties in Vegas are run down and falling apart, alot of vegrants for such a small town no real selection of quality products available except for at overpriced and understocked stores. Anything you need or want can be had cheaper and better in Santa Fe. The whole town seems to be stuck in the past. The college has some excellent facilities and some excellent teachers, though it always seems to have a high attrition rate and is the biggest employer in the town. If the college and the state mental hospital closed this town would probably disappear, like neighboring Tucumcari, and Santa Rosa. The hot springs at Montazuma are nice, though often trashed out and the drive in movies are a quiant take on the past. Living in the area for over 25 years i spend most of my time and money in santa fe where i dont have to stay poor to have access to decent health care, organic foods, arts and culture, or the general attitude of people on the street and around town. If your looking to see the old west, go to Toas, if your looking to lose money on a less then unique experience hang out in Las Vegas.
Just stop by for gas, cool place.
